The Fiber Festival of New England

Friends of The Fiber Festival of New England:

We share your regret that we will not be opening the doors of the Mallary Complex this weekend to welcome you all to The Fiber Festival of New England. This would have been our 10th annual event, and its cancellation leaves a tremendous void in the autumn season as we head into the holidays.

We have tentative plans to hold a virtual event in early 2021 for those of you who would like to reach out to your friends and customers. Many of them may be contacted through the vendor list on our website at https://www.easternstatesexposition.com/p/fiberfestival.

Of course, we also have plans to host an even bigger and better Fiber Festival of New England, November 6 and 7, 2021. We hope you’ve already marked your calendar to join us!

However, we have not endorsed any other events or offerings under the name of The Fiber Festival of New England.

If you have questions, please contact the office at 413-205-5011 or [email protected].

Thank you.

The annual Fiber Festival of New England is Nov. 2 & 3 at the Mallary Complex at Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass.

Friends of the Fiber Festival of New England:

After careful consideration, we regretfully announce that The Fiber Festival of New England has been cancelled for 2020. This would have been our 10th annual event, and it was a difficult decision to make.

COVID-19 restrictions do not allow for an event of the size, scope and passion that our Fiber Festival brings to the Mallary Complex every year. Fiber friends old and new gather, look, touch, pet, teach, help and share to an extent that does not fit current local, state and national regulations. From one end of the Complex to the other, in 150+ booths and every workshop classroom, from the shearing demonstrations to the Fleece Sale and the Food Court . . . we come together and immerse ourselves. The Fiber Festival of New England under those guidelines would not have been recognizable to our guests, vendors, instructors, volunteers or staff.

We will be back and better than ever -- Mark the calendar for November 6 and 7, 2021!

In the meantime, please support our wonderful vendors online, through social media or in any way possible. Above all, stay healthy and keep creating those artisan fiber works that make The Fiber Festival of New England such a wealth of color, design and warmth. It’s more important now than ever before. Thank you.

Janet Conner of J. Conner Hooked Rugs has two options for the 2020 Fiber Festival of New England. These classes will take place on Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8, at the Mallary Complex on the Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
* Folk Art Rug Hooking -- Like all old-fashioned crafts, rug hooking is low-tech, simple and lots of fun! Incorporate rovings, hand spun and commercial yarns and embellishments, once you've mastered the basics. This Saturday workshop will discuss the history and tradition of primitive rug hooking, as well as finding and preparing materials and research for design inspiration. Choose from a variety of kits, purchased directly from the instructor; each kit includes hook, instructions, binding, burlap, hoop and one-of-a-kind heirloom and hand-dyed wools.
* Miniature Punch Needle -- This is an old craft that mimics the appearance of hooked rugs in miniature doll house size! The design is punched from the back using a specialized punch needle tool, creating a series of tiny loops on the front surface. Students in this Sunday class will choose from a variety of kits that include an original folk art design, all hand-dyed and natural wool threads, and complete instructions. Together we will learn the technique for completing and displaying this beautiful and portable fiber craft.

* WORKSHOPS *
Kathleen Gerdes welcomes new and still-learning participants to two needle felting classes during The Fiber Festival of New England. Make the HoHo Santa on Saturday, November 7, and/or choose the Home Sweet Gnome on Sunday, November 8. Both are early afternoon workshops to be held in the Mallary Complex of the Eastern States Exposition, West Springfield, Massachusetts.
* HoHo Santa -- The needle felted Santa is fun and easy to make! Learn how to turn fluffy wool into this whimsical Santa, with only a felting needle. The 8-inch sculpture is made with a barbed needle that shapes this little guy into life! During this workshop, you will learn many techniques and skills that can take you on to make more wonderful 3D creations at home.
* Home Sweet Gnome -- These droll forest dwellers will make you laugh! Being only 5 inches tall, these little sculptured gnomes are an easy project if you've been wanting to try your hand at needle felting (but all levels are welcome). You'll love the process using only a felting needle and a dense foam pad. Easy, fun and a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Start with a base of polymer clay feet, wooden legs and needle felted body, and add the head, eyes, ears, tail and wool fleece in your choice of colors. Looking for the name of the vendor who was selling these?? Want to buy more
to whoever turned the blue eyeglasses in the blue case into the lost and found, THANK YOU!
I (Sojourner Design)was one of the vendors this weekend at FFNE. When I retrieved my car from the parking lot to load up after the event, my dash display warned that I had very low pressure in one tire. Back in the Mallory complex I ran into a ESE security employee and asked him to suggest where I could go locally to bring the pressure back up in that tire. He suggested a service station but said that he might be able to have someone from maintenance bring the equipment to pressurize the tire. Within 15 minutes they had helped me take care of my problem so that I could get on the road. I so appreciate their help as it was getting dark and I just wasn't sure where I would be able to access what I needed. Many thanks ESE staff!
