Zeeland Dance Ensemble is finishing up their six-day camp experience today. Dancers have worked hard the last two weeks to train and begin material for the 2021-2022 performance season. We are having an informal camp showcase to share all of the students' accomplishments tonight (Wednesday, August 18) at 7 PM in DeWitt auditorium. All are welcome. No charge. Masks are encouraged but optional.

A Chorus Line - High School Edition is a full-length version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, adapted for performance by high school students with family audiences. It is a stunning concept musical capturing the spirit and tension of a Broadway chorus audition. Exploring the inner lives and poignant ambitions of professional Broadway performers, the show features one powerhouse number after another. Memorable musical numbers include "What I Did for Love," "One," "I Can Do That," "At the Ballet," "The Music and the Mirror," and "I Hope I Get It." A brilliantly complex fusion of song, dance, and compellingly authentic drama, the show was instantly recognized as a classic. (PG-13)

Dance Alumni - we are looking for tan character heels (the same ones we use for dance) to borrow or buy...you can donate too. We are in need of sizes 7-10.5 for "A Chorus Line" and budget is a struggle because we have lost so much on ticket revenue during the pandemic. If you would be willing to donate, let us borrow, or let us purchase for a low cost, let me know. My email is [email protected]. Dance alumni parents - if there are unused dance shoes in your grown dancer's closet and you would like to donate them...we take everything and have lots of students in need.

We are also looking for short semi formal dresses (preferably a-line style) in bright colors for our dance finale this spring. If you have a closet full of dresses from past homecomings and winterfests that no longer fit or that you do not want - the dance program would LOVE them. Ensemble is doing a dance from "The Prom."
This is a great way to give back at a time when our programs are struggling with traditional revenue due to the pandemic.

Hello!
The Zeeland High Players held socially distanced auditions in September and have been rehearsing for "Almost, Maine."

As you might have guessed, in person seating for the November 2, 4, 5, 6 & 7 performances is very limited.

We're glad to be able to offer the opportunity to watch from the comfort of your home!

A streaming service subscription is now available for Almost, Maine at zpsarts.anywhereseat.com.

We would like to welcome you to Almost, Maine, a place that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States. It’s almost in Canada. And it’s not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn’t exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.

$20 - One device for a performance
$50 - One device for the run of the show (Six performances) (Passes)

To purchase a single show for streaming, click on the "Access" button while on the "Events" page.
To purchase the Run-of-the-Show Pass for all six shows, click on "Passes"

After that the rest should be pretty self explanatory.

Zeeland High Players

Last March, the global shutdown due to COVID-19 completely floored the performing arts in a variety of ways. As a high school theatre program, we are incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to continue our season this year while strictly following government mandated guidelines. However, we lost a lot financially after having 3 of our shows come to a screeching halt last year. To try and make up for this, we are going to be doing a ZHP fundraiser! We thank you for your continued support of our program, more information to come soon😉

ZHP Parents- ask your child about the fundraiser! All of the information they need is located on our student Google Classroom page!

Students and staff making music again!

We sang today! We stayed outside, we wore masks, and we kept our distance from one another, but we sang. It’s been a LONG time, so our voices are a bit “out of shape”, but it still felt good.
Thank you to the students that came out for a “trial rehearsal” before school starts in September. We’re doing another one on Monday if others would like to join us!
Feeling grateful for the opportunity to be together, and more optimistic as we approach a school year still full of uncertainties.

Congratulations Emma!

Wonderful News Wednesday!

This week we are highlighting HSYO senior Emma Hakken. Emma is a 2020 graduate of Zeeland East High School and was a member of the first violin section in her final season with HSYO. She plans to attend Hope College in the fall and will be majoring in music, possibly continuing on into a career in music therapy. Emma’s favorite memory during her time with HSYO was the post concert receptions where friends and family would greet the students and congratulate them on an amazing performance.

In addition to being a section leader, Emma was selected by director Dr. Christopher Fashun as one of the recipients of the Director's Choice Award.

We are grateful to Emma and her family for their commitment to HSYO and thank them for their many years of service and music making! Congratulations, Emma!

Scott Sneller...just so you know, we still remember and miss your mom.
I just want to give a shout out to the Cityside Middle School cast of Tarzan. They put on an amazing show, despite technical difficulties. That’s a very hard thing to do and they aced it. Very impressive middle schoolers!
Parents - This is a good watch. I do believe that sustained study in the performing arts builds grit. I have found it is usually not the kids with the most natural ability who succeed, some do, but not all. The defining factor is "stick with it." Don't give up when it's hard...work harder, practice more, and seek knowledge. I have often told students that sustained hard work trumps natural talent, most of the time. This week band and dance begin camps that are big grit builders. Not rocket science...we teach kids every day to set goals and stick with it. We teach them to work on their weaknesses and understand their strengths. I feel sad for all the kids who leave their art form before high school and never get to experience the transformation that is 4 years of performing arts study.
