GIRLSCHOOL is a Los Angeles-based women-led music festival, online platform, and collective that celebrates and connects women-identified artists, leaders, and voices.
Originally founded by Anna Bulbrook (the Bulls | the Airborne Toxic Event | Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) in response to how few women she saw onstage in the alternative rock world, GIRLSCHOOL has grown into a vibrant volunteer network of women in music who connect to create an empowering community for one another while supporting women and girls. A portion of the proceeds from every GIRLSCHOOL event benefits a girl-positive organization.
Mission: Our mission is to celebrate, connect, and lift excellent women-identified and gender-expanded artists, leaders, and voices.
Operating as usual

Love this video of DESI MO interviewing Garbage, Rituals of Mine, and founder Anna Bulbrook at Girlschool 2018 for UPROXX, because it reminds us why we work so hard to create a welcoming space for women-identified artists and bad bitches to shine. What kind of magic can happen when women are free to be our bad selves, to dream big, to create? We aim to find out.
This festival is changing the music business...
If you believe in the magic of the community that is Girlschool Festival + Community, then you should check out the incredible magic of Ruidosa and it's FIRE leader, Francisca Valenzuela. I was honored to speak with Francisca and Noisey's Andrea Domanick about why environments like Girlschool and Ruidosa are important; what challenges we hope to transform through collective action; the experiences that prompted the two of us to start parallel communities; and the opportunities for growth and the responsibilities that attend creating special spaces like these. โ Anna Bulbrook

This is our Monday Anthem, too.
Itโs the beginning of a new week, and whatever fresh horrors it may have in store, there is this defiant cover of Lesley Goreโs โYou Donโt Own meโ to get us through.
